A Little Rain, A Lot of Soul
Tacoma, and its people, have a way of surprising you.
On a classically rainy PNW afternoon, Riley and Toya did just that. In the intimate courtyard at the zoo, on a gray Tuesday, while the wind pulled at the tent and the rain threatened the camera gear, something real happened.
Riley showed up first, his DIY kick drum in tow: an old suitcase with a hinge and beater attached. He has a resourcefulness about him. He opened with a busker's ease, joyful and unhurried, singing about love, life, friendship, and stillness.
Toya walked in confidently with her ukulele and her young daughter by her side. She closed out the set with stunning vocal control and depth that drew people in.
The whole afternoon felt like it beautifully coincided with what life actually is. In a small moment in time, we touched many parts of the human experience.
People connected, were vulnerable, brave, and as they say, most importantly, had fun.
