I won’t lie. This was basically my second time really having Vietnamese food. Not because I’ve been avoiding it. It’s just not something I’ve really explored until now.
Vien Dong has been around since 1989. It's a second generation, family-owned place, and you can feel that. Nothing flashy. Just history.

The menu had kind of a vaporwave look, which I thought was cool. I don’t know if that was intentional, but something about the old-school fonts, the simple illustrations, and the faded paper just gave me early computer era vibes like something you’d see in a Windows 98 design program. It added a little charm.
Feeling Hungry?
We started with the fresh salad rolls. They were great. Everything tasted clean and crisp. The herbs had a nice kick, the shrimp was poppin, and the peanut sauce tied it all together in a way that just worked.
We also had the stir-fried chicken, beef, and shrimp with mixed vegetables – one with rice, one with soft egg noodles. Both were solid. Everything came in fresh. Nothing felt like it had been sitting around. Just well made food.
The standout for me was the Vietnamese coffee. It just hit. Bold, smooth, and sweet. Had that strong coffee flavor that wakes you up but still goes down easy.
The service was wonderful too. We asked for a few recommendations and they gave them to us right away. No hesitation. Good people who seemed to care about what they serve. And that always sticks with me. When people really care about what they do, it makes me want to show up better in my own work too.
