Balloon Roof Bakery is not your typical cafe with a fully loaded menu of sweet goodie and beverage options. It’s simple. Just like their breads, they’re intentional with their space and menu, offering an awesome, quiet place for those looking for a perfect little third space.

Tucked away in the corner off 6th and South Grant Street, Balloon Roof Bakery is inviting and pleasant. Smiles from those eating their delicious sandwiches and pastries made it evident that we were all in for a treat. Within minutes of gazing at their menu, we decided that we would choose an assortment of breakfast and lunch sandwiches and pastries.

The Lunch Sandwich (made with ham, gruyere, scallions and spicy schmears, arugula, lemon vinaigrette with cracked pepper) was effortless and yet so delicious. Sometimes simple ingredients are all you really need. The Pain Au Chocolate was delightful. The buttery, flaky croissant had the perfect amount of chocolate embedded into every bite. Some other items that we tried included a hearty breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and ham, the sweetest molasses cookie, and a savory ham and gruyere croissant.

As far as ambiance, we enjoyed how much space we had, considering there was a good amount of people dining in during the lunch hour. Whether you’re flying solo or catching up with a few friends for lunch, the seating areas are very accommodating. Not to mention, there was a fully loaded play kitchen for kids aspiring to become future bakers. A real treat for parents looking to relax a little while the kiddos play.

Balloon Roof Bakery is really one of those special places that offers a straight forward menu with thoughtful homemade desserts and beverages. Sometimes having something simple is all that you really need to enjoy the day!
